ER nurse here. Put some Pepcid in the same package as your Benadryl. Benadryl is a H1 antagonist and Pepcid is an H2. That’s where we start for allergic reaction before moving to epi and steroids. Also, Leuko tape is the duct tape of the medical world. Works better than mole skin and had multiple uses.
@@Hudson4426 outstanding information, thank you!
So what size kitbag would be good for a P10C and an extra mag? The Full one?
Sounds like to me HPG need to make some backcountry skis/bindings/ Boots
Wish you guys would’ve added a multicam black to the medium runners kit bag 😢
Does it come with the belt?
The way our inventory system works, you need to add a belt in YOUR size separately. Also, many of our customers already have Prairie Belts on other packs and choose to swap those belts around to save some money.
Thank you
Just signed up for black, really hoping for a run so I can EDC this - join me on that waitlist yall!
Great info thanks
This guy is brilliant. Hill People Gear just works...
I really, and I can't stress this enough, I REALLY wish you would've lined the pistol compartment the same way as the main. I also wish you didn't have the zipper flap on the pistol compartment because mine gets hung up regularly enough that I will not use it for my pistol. So between the lack of usable Velcro and the zipper flap I ended up having to use the main compartment for my pistol, which makes everything else fit weird in the bag. It's dangerous having that flap where it can jam up the zipper. PLEASE change those things!
We have an update currently in testing. What size do you use?
@@HillPeopleGear I've been using the Medium for a few months now. You guys make really good gear so it's great to hear that you are innovating!
I just discovered your company, and the UA-cam channel that is with it. This video is great. Something I have never considered when I go out is pacing.
Awesome demonstration!
@hillpeoplegear I know its not necessarily what you geared your packs towards, but do you have a pack you would recommend for doing ruck walks with weight plates? Thanks!
My favorite shoulder only daypack is the Connor. My favorite belted daypack is the Umlindi. Junction would also be a good shoulder only choice. They'll all handle weight considerably more comfortably than the packs marketed for "rucking".
Can you make a video about attaching your kit bag to your recon harness???
I cant decide between MCB or RG 🤦♂
Ironically, MCB is more urban than ranger even though it's a camo.
Form Packtor is an epic word coining.
Will this fit the 65L watershed dry bag backpack?
Yes
@@HillPeopleGear thanks!
This is the worst piece of kit that HPG makes. It isn't warm, doesn't block the wind well, and simply is not a value add to any system I've tried..... with exception of bundling the dog up at night. I like all my other HPG kit, but the serape is a turd.
Clever ploy to keep people from getting on the notification list 😉 I know it's frustrating that every shipment sells out in a couple hours. We're working on it...
Awesome resource! Thanks guys!

I love these videos. I know it’s not your guy’s intention with this series, but I learn a lot about traveling in the backcountry from watching. The reverence you hold for it and the pace at which you move. It’s taught me to stop, observe, and appreciate. Thanks for these! Blessings
Designing gear is cool and all, it's nice to make a living selling it, but the part I truly care about is giving people the opportunity and inspiration to re-connect with the natural world. That's what the field and longhouse videos are for, and it's always gratifying to know when I'm hitting that mark. Thank you for taking the time to let me know.
My problem with synthetic polyester baselayer is I stink in 2 to 3 hrs. My only exception is the Sitka synthetic baselayers. Even wool and polyester blends cause me to stink quickly. As John Barlow says some people just can’t wear synthetic. I fine alpaca wool to be the answer for me as baselayer.
Wonderful trip Evan. I've hung out at an active beaver pond once. Amazing to watch them do their thing. What free standing floorless shelter were you running? Looks different than the Utopia you usually run for trips like this. Nate
Borrowed from Scot - it's a four season tent pitched without the inner tent. Won't make the cut for me because it's too heavy for 1 and I really don't like the clips. Might be my first choice for 2 people.
@@HillPeopleGear Thanks. I wish someone would recreate the golite utopia with your mods. Seems ideal for 3 seasons of the year.
@@journeyman7189 4 seasons of the year really. I'm thinking about going back to a Chouinard Megamid style of shelter but really what I need to do is bite the bullet and design my own freestanding floorless.
@@HillPeopleGear I would second that!. My only gripe about the summer season with an open shelter is the bug pressure unless a light bug bivy were something that could be added in with not to much of a weight penalty. I think Seek Outside has the right idea with their Silex with stove jack and bug inner. Great weight and adaptable to all seasons but not free standing. So close.
@@journeyman7189 do you find the problem to be bugs from the air, from the ground, or both? What part of the world do you typically spend your outdoor time?

Happy to see you back on the trail! Thank you for the tracking tips.
Great video, Evan...as always. A really skilled tracker could age those bear prints across the snow pack, which is an impressive skill. Thanks for taking us along.
Evans backcountry trips reminds me of Marty Stouffer from the show Wild America. An epic show I grew up watching.
For me, it was Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom -- either way that's about the highest compliment I could be paid.
I sure enjoy your videos. So many now are full of hype and nonsense. The beaver footage was excellent - undisturbed. Thanks for sharing your outing!
Thanks! Before too long it'll be time to start poking around down in your neck of the woods.
@@HillPeopleGear Yep, spring’s a long time coming up high. Waiting😁
Thank you Evan for this video, learned a lot. So, share something with you, if don't mind? 17:05 Because some folks, wearing polyester causes a feeling of being in a plastic bag and if not resting, causes sweating; add warm ambient temperature and sweat pouring out like when sitting in a sauna; blends no different. I also find tight woven cotton, like most T shirts, to be uncomfortable when sweating, gets wet, stays wet, whereas wool undershirts stay cool and dry. Have you tried bamboo, which is a synthetic silk, also called rayon, with wool? I myself prefer it over a 100 percent wool base layer, especially in summer. Cheers, Adriel
I've been curious about both bamboo and silk baselayers as better potential alternatives to not just wool but also synthetic. I haven't investigated them because once something works out well enough for me I tend to move on to other problem areas -- and synthetic baselayers have worked out well enough. Both of those options are certainly worth trying out for someone who isn't happy with synthetic.
I’m actually shocked out bad some of the information is in this video coming from a respected company like HPG. Wool dries very quickly and keeps you warm even when wet. You think all those sheep could survive in the fields if their wool layer didn’t keep them warm when they got wet? Cotton dries incredibly slowly and provides almost zero insulation when it gets wet. A material that dries faster doesn’t make you cold, it’s the exact opposite. Meanwhile, a slower drying material like cotton will cool you down and speed up evaporative cooling because your skin is constantly touching something wet. A 70/30 or 80/20 merino wool/synthetic blend weighs almost nothing, wicks moisture incredibly well, keeps you warm even when wet, dries quickly and doesn’t stink. The biggest downside for wool is that it’s not super durable. Full synthetics (literally plastic) are bad for being in the field or in the mountains. Technically they dry quickly and provide a decent amount of insulation but they stink horribly especially if you’re in the field for multiple days, I also wouldn’t be surprised if all that plastic leaching into your skin through sweat isn’t very good for you. I love HPG and own several of their products but surprised by how bad this video is. Maybe it’s because they don’t sell any merino wool products, idk but expected better. The guy who left HPG and went to spiritus systems is really knowledgeable on materials and they’ve put out videos that give factual information.
I know wool is a sacred cow that is very trendy. That doesn't mean it's great. Back when you had a choice of wool vs. cotton baselayers, wool was king because it stays warmer when wet than cotton does. However, "warm when wet" is pretty limited compared to synthetic. Primaloft retains 90+% of its warmth when wet, wool only retains something like 50% -- pretty abysmal in comparison. And yes, wool takes forever to dry. I live off grid and line dry all my clothing. When you're waiting for something to dry so you can put it away, you get a pretty good sense of what dries the quickest. Wool takes FOREVER, cotton dries quickly - if you're talking about equivalent thicknesses of material. Wool / synthetic blends like the socks I use dry more quickly than wool, but still more slowly than cotton. The only reason I mention cotton in this video is because it works well in the summer when you want evaporative cooling. The reason sheep do so well is that their hair is coated with an oil called lanolin. The fibers are completely encapsulated and don't get wet. It works similarly to dry down. It used to be that you could get wool garments with the lanolin still on, but it's been decades since I've seen any of that. I think wool / high synthetic content blends are pretty good, but not as good as full synthetic. And of course for stink, high end synthetic garments that are stink resistant are available. Last we talked, Kevin's field experience with wool is the same as mine - he's no fan of it.
I noticed the orange zipper pulls you have staged up in the center of the track on top of your kit bag. I have one of your earliest iterations and I've done two things to make access to that pocket easier. I'm sure we've all seen the 550 cord bracelets with the cobra weave I think it's called. I added a cobra weave to both of those zipper pulls to stiffen them up, they stand up now and are generally always where I left them. I also stage them in the corner favoring my dominant hand, this makes opening smoother and more instinctive as neither pull has to go around a bend and the pouch opens wider than just opening the top run. The nice thing is the cobra weave makes the important zipper pulls unmistakable from the others on the V1 just by feel, but just out of habit I stage them on the opposite corner.
Looks like another winner of a product. A bit to big for my needs and frame however but my snubby runners is working out great. Nate
Great trip.
Another great episode. Who's the music by in the beginning?
For these in the field videos I use licensed music from a stock music service. The opening piece is "Blurry Dreams" by AG Music.
My my, perhaps the finest video you have made in my ten years watching…
Thank you.
Not wanting to offend, but you mentioned a infection. Was that from a water source in the field? I’m interested in water filters and purification processes in the field and on the move.
no, years long underlying condition that was resolved by a surgery early this year. For more information on filters and purification, go to naturereliance.org. In person classes, facebook group, etc. You can also watch this video I made: ua-cam.com/video/-2nsswm-uzs/v-deo.htmlsi=Nf4m443Y20_f-oH2

Excellent video. I enjoyed every bit and was glad you got out in those conditions and took us along. I’m not a winter camper but sure enjoy watching those who do. Thanks.
That is what hunting is about. The modern hunting shows and videos are mostly distasteful to me. I greatly dislike the celebration on taking an animals life. I’ve never felt like doing that after a kill. But, I’m mostly a meat hunter. Very nicely done film. Two thumbs up.
It took a couple videos to fully realize you’re here in my home territory. Nice film work and all. I’m a new subscriber. Nice work.
Do y'all make a hybrid layered system, Patrol Pack , Chest Rig and Battle Belt combo? That can be worn separately or hooked together as one piece.
There is a lot to unpack in this question. First off, we make "real use gear for backcountry travelers". Although there are some military individuals and units that use our gear, it's not designed specifically for military applications. That being said, our two models of pack belt are removeable and make very comfortable utility belts or battle belts on their own. Our Kit Bags (chest rigs) aren't designed to be fighting rigs but, again, some individuals and units find them useful in some contexts. They are worn standalone underneath any pack you want and can optionally be docked to a wide variety of packs to take the load off of the H-harness while you're wearing a pack. "Patrol Pack" can mean a lot of different things. We have extremely comfortable and capable packs in all sizes that either attach to our belt or can sit on top of our m2016 butt pack when it is attached to one of our belts. Not sure what problem you're trying to solve but it's probably worth a look at our lineup to see how it might work out for you.
@@HillPeopleGear i do a lot of Hunting by myself in true Wilderness areas miles from civilization. and would like a modular system that's easy to attach and or take off has needed.
@@TennGrizz backpack hunting, you want the qui-Ya or Decker Tall. If you're just day hiking in, take a look at the Decker Frame with Decker Pocket.
Did you switch from the First Need filter for any reason or just preferred a smaller model for this trip?
I have a First Need that is meant for purification. In the mountains and the deserts of the US where I only need a filter, I've used the Sweetwater Guardian (now MSR Sweetwater) for 25 or more years.
Awesome Evan , Glad you're back!!
